As Dr. House once said: Everybody lies
"It's okay, guys! Everyone lies! Politicians too! Just sit back and take it!"

Here you have, heavily paraphrased, the astounding logic of one [info]mon_lapin! (You remember her, right?)

The post in question? Senator John McCain being edited on CBS to make it look like he didn't either fuck up his statement or lie.

But it's okay! He's tired from campaigning, he can't handle the stress, he's bound to make mistakes! Also, if he did lie, oh, don't worry!~ Politicians lie all the time! It's a tactical move, get over it.

More patient people than myself respond in kind, trying to get her to realize that both answers still pretty much suck in the scheme of things - either we've got a moron, or a liar. Or a lying moron. But good ol' [info]mon_lapin, as you very well know, refuses to see the light or listen to people tell her she might, god forbid, be wrong:

"If it's tactical it's no worse then other politicians. If it's a mistake on an interview , whoop." Yeah, it's not like he's running for President of the United St.... oh.

This girl. She is a Pez dispenser of stupid.

    I'm getting married tomorrow!
My fiance is taking a shower and we're up at 3am to catch our 6:30am flight to Vegas. I would just like to thank everyone who has helped me over my year and a half on here (although I'm well aware that most of those people are gone now-still sending a symbolic thank you into the universe). I know I have one date twin (not sure about others), so fellow July 24th bride-good luck! To all others, good luck and happy planning! :-)

    Extras on the RSVP card
I know this is a problem that has been addressed over and over again...

We decided that since 60% of our friends have small children, we couldn't invite them all. So rather than pick and choose, we decided to invite none - except the flower girl, who is 9, and the one lone child in our entire families - my cousin's baby who will be 2.

We received a RSVP back from one of my oldest friends A and his wife L. A is a groomsmen. We addressed their invitation to A and L. Not the M family. They have RSVP'd for 3 - A and L and their daughter V, who will be almost 3. V's name was no where on the invite or the STD. If we let them bring V, we can't really turn to others and say, but the only children will be family and children in the bridal party. Really I don't even want my cousin to bring her baby because he isn't all that well behaved anyway... but with my entire family at the wedding, I doubt if I didn't let her bring her baby, that she would even be able to come and etc.

Its not that V isn't well behaved, she is. If she came it would open a pandora's box of others wanting to bring their babies and/or us telling people no and then they come and see other people's children there and wonder why. The only option would be if they wanted V to be a flower girl - the other flower girl is just wearing a white dress that ties in the back. No need for them to match completely.

Anyways, so I'm struggling with a way to email them (best way to get a hold of them) and let them know that while we would normally love to see V, we decided the fairest way to deal with children was to either invite all or none. That we hope they understand.

I just can't figure out a way to say it. I don't really want to say "deal with children" or anything that seems offensive. Its just we would go from having 2 children to having about 15 if we just let everyone bring kids.

    Help?!!

    my fat arms
I have fat arms. Well, not just fat arms, but the wedding dress is pretty flattering everywhere else. It's spaghetti straps, and an A-line dress.

I want to add sleeves to the dress, because I'm self-conscious about the way my arms look, but I have no idea what kind of sleeves would be flattering.

    What do you suggest?

    Here they are!
So, I ordered the glasses from Zenni Optical and they came in yesterday. Great!

I think I like them. I'm not completely sold on the shape yet. I'm also not completely sold on the accuracy of the prescription, so I'm going to get them checked at a glasses store. So I can't vouch for them in that regard yet. I'll definitely keep you updated on that front.

Without further ado (and without further discomfort from excess typing and lacking the use of one of my most important digits. ack, more on that after the cut), I present...PICTURES! )

Anyway, them is my glasses. What do you think?

Alfred Angelo Mother and Flower Girl Dress
Does anyone have experience with ordering Alfred Angelo Mother of the Bride? How did you order it? My mom likes this outfit  but would also like to avoid going to any stores so would it be possible for me to call a local bridal store that carries Alfred Angelo and just order it through them?

Also, where did you find your flower girl dresses? My flower girl will be over 2 years old but she is so skinny so she is only wearing a size 18months. I like the line Sweet Beginnings but none of the stores near my flower girl carry the line. Again, could we just call a local store that carries Jordan Fashions and order it?

    Thanks!

My DJ just emailed me my slideshow for the cocktail hour, and I'm so pleased! It looks really nice, and I'm really happy with it. If you care to view it, follow the link!

She might be changing 'Home' to something else, since 'Home' is our first dance song. But we're not sure what song to change it to. Any ideas for those of you who sit through it?

    New Member
Hello Fatshionistas!  I'm new to LJ and to this community (I joined LJ so I could join this community, actually).  I guess I'll give some background about me and stuff then go from there.

My name is Kae Cheraghi.  I am 19 years old.  I am married to a 29-year-old Iranian man who's just the best person in my life; he's always so good to me even though I'm crazy and difficult at the best times, always supportive of me and my ambitions and always there to make me feel better when things go wrong, never asks for anything in return (of course I'm good to him too but he's just not demanding at all).  I married for love.  I did not marry because I got pregnant (seems to be the stereotype of a young wife).  I am a part-time college student with 2 jobs, one at a university dining hall (I just had orientation today and will start soon), then another job with the university police department driving a van.  I also sell on eBay plus size women's clothing.  I am majoring in pre-business, but I really just want to do eBay to make my living.  I have big dreams about a business, so I guess business is a good major since I want my own store and all.  I'm in school because I am expected to be and because the state pays my tuition for maintaining a B average.

I enjoy various things online (I LOVE blogging but I am bad at maintaining an online journal... I want to get better about it though, really), eBay, making deals (I also love the sales posts here in this community and hope to buy lots of great plus clothing off you beauties), I also like fashion and clothes (of course), mainly goth-punk kind of stuff but a few eclectic pieces thrown in that just tickle my pickle (like a pair of snake print blue jeans or a pop-art print tee), so you can imagine I love Torrid and Tripp NYC.  I collect Tripp dresses in my size.

Here's the kicker!  I'm fat!  Who would have guessed right?  I hated myself and had poor body image and low self-esteem until about a year or year and a half ago (I think it was around March '07).  At that point I just realized that it's stupid to hate myself and that plenty of people like me the way I am and find me attractive and fun to be with, so why bother impressing the pricks who don't like me or want me to change?  I just began to find beauty in the things about me that people thought were wrong... my blunt honest and loud personality, my crude and sick sense of humor, my curvaceous large body, my off-beat style...  I look in the mirror and don't see repulsive ugly images... I just see me, being me, and I find that beautiful (not like narcissistic, I don't brag or anything, I just enjoy my appearance on a personal level, yah know).

I mainly shop at Torrid, so I will give my sizes based on their sizes.  I am a snug 3 top, snug 4 (26) bottom, size 22 or 24 dress (sometimes a 26 if the bust runs small).  I am 5'8" not sure of my weight, but I would imagine probably around 260-280.  Measure 52-48-62 and a 46D bra, size 8-8.5-9 medium width shoe, but need wide calf boots, o'course!

I'm going to wrap this up, since I've written a lot and my hubby's home (I wanna hang out with him since he works all day).  I like talking to new people, so feel free to shoot me an email or anything like that, I almost always have a lot to say.  Thanks and I look forward to becoming an active Fatshionista member.  I've been looking at the OOTD posts as well, and everyone looks so pretty!!  I hope I can get my hubby or a friend to help me take some OOTD pictures soon!

    Till next time!

    guestbook - poster

Has anyone done a guestbook like this? Just a poster where people sign their names? We're having a very small wedding in Vegas and I love this idea. I would love to frame it and put it in our house! Our RSVP is a month before the wedding so I figure I can get it made with exactly enough lines.

If you did do one of these did someone make it for you? Did you make it yourself? Do you have pics?? :D

    DIY cupcakes
    25 days to go!

For those of you replied to my previous post about undergarments and Maggie dresses, thanks! My mom and I went to Macy's today, and while I didn't find any long line bras or bustiers, I did buy a tan strapless bra with a low back-strap. So I'll have a little something to push my boobs up, without wearing anything ridiculous or uncomfortable. Score!

    --
Anyway. For ages, we've been talking about doing cupcakes for our wedding. Jimmy likes to bake, and I figured this was something he could do, and I'd just not worry about it. Of course, I end up thinking about everything, even if it's not my responsibility. We're trying to figure out how many cupcakes to make.

We have cupcake trays in two sizes-- a pan that makes a dozen 2.75-inch across cupcakes, and one that makes two dozen little cupcakes (I think 1.75-inch in diameter). Our general plan is to make the larger cupcakes in chocolate and vanilla (since those are standard, and still delicious), and use the smaller trays for pistachio (lemon frosting) and banana (vanilla frosting).

We'll also be serving giant cookies, courtesy of our caterer (they come with the sandwich bar lunch we're getting. Make-your-own sandwiches on yummy bread.)

If there's already a cookie for everyone, how many cupcakes should we make? We have most of our RSVP info finalized (our cut-off was Saturday, so now we're just bugging people who didn't respond) and I'm guessing we'll have 160 adults (tops) and... about 20 kids (meaning 12 and younger).

I know not everyone eats cake, and I assume the same goes for cupcakes. Although that's why it's nice to have the little ones, I guess. My mom is also making a small cake for cutting.

I don't want to have a ton of cupcakes left over, although I'm sure we could find people willing to take them.

    --
In other news, Jimmy and his Best Man are getting measured for tuxes tomorrow. We're also going down to the cathedral to finalize music for the ceremony. We meet with the priest next Wednesday to solidify readings and other ceremony details.

My wedding was on July 12, and it was absolutely wonderful. I couldn't have asked for anything better! Our friend Debbie was the official photographer (we didn't hire a pro), and she shot some gorgeous photojournalistic stlye photos.

Heeeey! So, my shower is Sunday. As some of you may remember (although I doubt it), we've decided to make homemade sugar cookies in the shape of leaves (for my fall themed wedding/shower) as favors for each guest. I got into a little argument with FH's mom this weekend and almost didn't make them because she HATES this idea. Well, the good news is..we've finished them! Well, the baking part. They are completely done baking/cooling and are currently sitting in Tupperware containers until we frost/sprinkle them all on Friday/Saturday.

I just had to write it. It feels good to be done!

Pictures to come once they are finished.

    Under pressure
How did all of you come to an agreement when it came to things that your FH has no opinion of, or too much of one but refuses to make up his mind?

I finally figured out how to make choosing a menu proposal an easy task
Step 1) I meet with the caterer, and get the info.
Step 2) I print out their pricing list and hand FH a pen to mark off what he likes.
Step 3) I give FH a foot massage to distract him while he's searching out food items he likes.
=) Step 4 and 5 will involve taste testings and who tasted better, which will be easy.

I'm drawing a blank on photography though. I made him look at different pages and all he said was: "It's the same artsy crap, no real pictures! I don't care!".

Here's the photographers I'm looking at:
Tinywater Photography: I love these people. They'll probably end up doing our engagement photos, but not the wedding as they're out of our price range.
Living Faith Photography Just contacted them today, seemed really nice and definitely reasonably priced.
Bella Pictures: Ok, big company here. Which has the pro of knowing that it's not likely to close suddenly and that someone no matter what will photograph my wedding. But they pair you with photographers and you don't find out who they are till a few weeks before the wedding. Also, priced higher than Tinywater but I'd get more for my money.

Any input? Oh, if you don't remember I'm the one with the venue that messed up our date. We ended up talking it over, and booking the Opera House after all for the Sunday they had us down for. Sunday will end up working out for us better, and despite that mistake they've been great, I'm now talking to the right person, they'll let our rentals get there the day before and let us pick up the day after. With no extra charge.

    Craig, Jamie: Chasing Silver
    Chasing Silver
    Writer: Jamie Craig
    Genre: Romantic Suspense
    Pages: 282

I rather enjoyed this book, even though it didn't take long to figure out that despite the time-travel element, this book pretty much was NOT SF/F, which is the shelf you'll find it on in bookstores. No, this book is for those readers who enjoy romance, romantic suspense/thriller, but really, and I'm going out on a limb here because I'm not FAMILIAR with the following genre, erotica. Because this book is sex, sex, and more sex.

Fortunately for me, I don't mind. But I'm afraid some SF/F readers would, hence the warning. :)

The premise: Remy is on a heist in Washington, DC trying to make a frantic getaway when she's suddenly transported back in time to the year 2008, in LA. Not only does she have to reconcile her new surroundings with how she's used to living, but she also has to reconcile her feelings and desires for the man who finds her. More important, she's still running from her "futuristic" past, and if she's not careful, it's going to catch up with her.

The full review, which does include spoilers, can be found at my LJ. As always, comments and discussion are most welcome.

    Invitations
So I'm trying to work on our invitations. Since FH works at a company owned by Xerox, he gets to print nice things for free. He got the OK from his boss that he could print our invitations so we can save ourselves money. My only problem? I don't know how "elegant" they look. Advice please?

so how's this? I had a middle school moment today and watched "Get Over It" (very underrated teen comedy if I do say so myself). One of the songs in the film is "The Shining" by Badly Drawn Boy (song posted above in youtube video), which is a song I've always loved. The song has a pretty long intro, and I got the idea to use it as the processional song for the wedding party and myself. The bridesmaids/groomsmen and flower girls would come in at the beginning during the cellos and horns, at 1:19 is where I would walk down the aisle and then we'd fade out the song right before the singing starts (its a fairly short aisle so we'd have plenty of time).
thoughts? anyone think the fadeout might be too abrupt?

    Be Careful with your Invitations!
We mailed out our wedding invitations on Saturday. We'd addressed and sealed them the night before with a glue stick, and when we took them to the PO, we noticed that a few didn't appear tightly sealed, so we pulled them out and glued them again. We waited a bit before we put those in the mail to make sure they'd stay shut. Well, on Monday, my mother received 3 empty response envelopes in the mail--meaning that at least 3 invitations came unsealed as they bounced around in the mail, so at least 3 people won't have response cards. Sigh.

I've talked to about 10 people who received their invitations intact, so I'm feeling a bit better. If 3 missing invitations is all I have to deal with, it's fine. But I would recommend using a sticker to help seal your envelopes or to have your inviations hand cancelled. If I'd been thinking straight and wasn't crazed with planning, I would have done that. If you use a glue stick, wait at least 2 days before mailing your invitations so you can make sure the seal holds.

    Interesting guest list situation
So, I know I have been on a posting roll lately... Finally starting to dig into things! I should be doing a 400 day progress post next week! Anyway...

So I am having trouble deciding whether or not to invite one specific family. For a little background, the mom is my mom's cousin, and they have 3 kids. The oldest son was in my FH's pledge class in his fraternity and is definitely invited, and the other 2 kids are both college age and I have met them only once. My mom is fairly close with the parents but I am not.

However, now the dilemma is whether or not we invite his parents, because since they are my mom's cousins I am worried that they would be offended not to be invited if their son is invited. If we invite the parents, do we have to invite their other 2 kids as well? I would have no problem just inviting the parents to avoid the headache, except that my mom comes from a HUGE family and has 12 other cousins on that same side and is pretty close with all of them, and we won't be inviting any of them.

So, do you think (etiquette-wise or just your opinion) that I should only invite the one son that FH is close with, invite the son and parents, or invite the whole family, given the other factors involved in the situation?

    All Female Wedding Party?
Has anyone ever seen an all female wedding party (beside the groom)? If you went to a wedding and saw an all female wedding party (bridemaids, groomsmaids) would you think it was strange?

FH and I don't really have any close guy friends, I get along better with girls and he does too.  FH isn't really close to his brother (who can't actually attend the wedding anyway, so moot point), and he doesn't have any other male family members who know him particularly well and vice versa.

Since we're supposed to pick the people who are closest to us, and have supported us, etc, etc.  I'm thinking it would be okay to have an all female wedding party.

    What do you think?
